Taekwondo Master to Be Sentenced For Years of Sexually Abusing Three Underage Students
The sentencing hearing for a former taekwondo instructor in Manitoba, Canada on charges of sexual assault involving three students began on Tuesday.
King Yeung, 58, was arrested in May 2016 on accusations of child abuse, sexual exploitation and other offenses. According to CBC News, he pleaded guilty to the charges last December.
Yeung’s crimes took place between 1998 and 2012. Two of the victims were minors during the said period.
On Tuesday, one of his two victims present in court declared, “I will never forget what you have done to me.”
Yeung’s first victim came forward in April 2016, Global News reported. Police claimed that he began touching the victim inappropriately in 2009, when she was still under 16 and he was 50.
Yeung’s actions advanced over time. He assaulted the victim up to four times each week. Apparently, he became a father figure to the victim and brought her with him on trips.
Two other victims have stepped forward since then.
In the hearing, the prosecution aimed for a 12-year sentence while the defense sought for seven. A remorseful Yeung told his victims on Tuesday:
“I’m very terribly sorry for my actions towards you. I made horrible decisions without thinking about the consequences.”
The sentence is yet to be determined.
