NW China nature reserve sees first golden monkey birth of the year
There was reason to celebrate at the Foping National Nature Reserve in northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Monday, as it welcomed the first new-born golden monkey of the year, despite relatively low local temperatures. The birth was discovered by Peng Xiaoyang, a staff member at the reserve, as he approached the mother monkey with food. She then walked into the woods with her baby, leaving the food behind. Peng has been taking care of the golden monkeys for over five years. He said the Qinling golden snub-nosed monkey's breeding season is usually between the end of March and the middle of May, but this was the first time he had seen an infant golden monkey born before March 15.
