Treasury secretary-general and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) board member Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah has refused to confirm if the company will fulfill payment obligations to Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company (Ipic) by tomorrow.

“You wait and see,” said Irwan told reporters curtly today before leaving a function in Putrajaya today.

1MDB, a sovereign wealth fund wholly-owned by the Finance Ministry, had missed a July 31 deadline to pay Ipic US$602 million (RM2.57 billion).

Following this, Ipic granted an extension which led to 1MDB making a partial payment of US$350 million (RM1.49 billion) on Aug 12 and an understanding that the balance would have to be paid by Aug 31.
