IGP REFUSES TO DANCE TO ZAHID, KU NAN’S TUNE: IF THEY WANT TO HOLD BEER FEST, THEY STILL CAN – TOP COP CONFIRMS DECISION RESTS WITH LOCAL COUNCIL NOT HOME MINISTRY

PUTRAJAYA – Don’t blame the police for the cancellation of events like the Better Beer Festival 2017, said Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

The Inspector-General of Police said the decision to cancel rested with the local council, not the police.

However, he stressed that there was intelligence indicating a militant threat if the event was carried out.

“I have been receiving many calls blaming us for this, but it was not up to us.

“We can only advise. If they choose to hold it, they still can,” he told a press conference after attending the 2017 Warriors’ Day celebration here on Monday.

Last week, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said it had rejected the organiser’s application to hold the Better Beer Festival, which had been running successfully for five years, after receiving an application for a permit on Aug 28.

The DBKL announcement came a week after PAS central committee member Dr Riduan Mohd Nor spoke out against the event, calling it a “pesta maksiat” (vice party).

He claimed that it would turn Kuala Lumpur into the “largest vice centre in Asia”.
