PRIVATE FUNERAL FOR MALAYSIA’S RICHEST WOMAN: VIP’S, MEMBERS OF PUBLIC PAY LAST RESPECTS TO PUAN SRI LEE

KUALA LUMPUR – Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan paid their last respects to Puan Seri Lee Kim Hua at the family’s residence at Taman Duta here.

Others included members of the public and media practitioners who came in at 6pm.

Policemen were at the front gate of the residence and on the premises.

Those who wish to extend their condolences are required to register at two checkpoints and hand in their identification cards.

They will then be given a tag.

The wake will be held until Monday, 11am.

Lee, who is reported to be the richest woman in Malaysia passed away yesterday morning.

She was often called the family’s “pillar of strength”.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai described Lee as kind-hearted and warm when imparting advice to him.

“We are sad that Puan Seri Lee has passed away … as you know, the Genting group has contributed immensely to the nation’s economy.

“(They) have attracted a lot of investments for the country, spurring its growth.

“I have known her for many years … ever since my youth days and as Bentong’s MP. I used to attend their open house with my family,” he told reporters here at the residence.

He added that he had last seen Puan Seri Lee during this year’s Chinese New Year’s celebration at Genting Highlands.

The atmosphere at the wake was calm with flowers adorning the home.
