As Anwar jokes about allocations, Loke announces RM10k for PD temple
PD POLLS | Pakatan Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim said in jest today that he needs to be careful of what he says in his campaign for the Port Dickson by-election because he is being monitored "with binoculars."
"I cannot announce anything, people are using binoculars to watch whatever I say," he said to the laughter of a crowd of 500 at a fundraising dinner for a Taoist temple in Lukut.
In his speech, Anwar also touched on his free e-tuition programme for schools in the constituency last week.
"Some were questioning if this is vote buying, but the programme will continue even if I lose.
"Don't let me lose lah," he said.
Anwar also told the crowd that the 'new Malaysia' under Pakatan Harapan has already rectified some of the mistakes of the previous BN administration, such as by ensuring greater press freedom.
The Harapan candidate cut short his speech, however, as he rushed off to another ceramah on the campaign trail, with the Oct 13 polls just days away.
Also present at the fundraising dinner was Seremban MP Anthony Loke, along with Choo Ken Hwa and M Ravi, assemblypersons for Lukut and Sri Tanjung – both state constituencies under Port Dickson.
Loke, the transport minister, announced an RM10,000 allocation for the construction of the Xi Tian Niang Niang Gong temple.
"I am here as the only cabinet minister from Negeri Sembilan, and I will allocate RM10,000 tonight," he said.
Loke stressed, however, that the announcement of the allocation has nothing to do with the by-election, as he was invited to the fundraising dinner approximately a month ago.
"Many organisations around Negeri Sembilan invited me, and I have given allocations throughout the state," he added.
According to Loke, the temple committee needs at least RM3 million to build the temple.
Earlier, Choo also announced an RM5,000 allocation.
In this Saturday's polls, Anwar will face off against his former political aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, PAS' Mohd Nadzari Mokhtar, as well as independents Stevie Chan, Lau Seck Yan and Kan Chee Yuen.
Early voting concluded today with a 63 percent turnout. - Mkini
