Doan to fly home to Vietnam at 7.15pm today (May 3)

PUTRAJAYA: Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, who escaped the gallows after she pleaded guilty to an alternative charge in the murder of North Korean Kim Jong-nam, is expected to take a flight home at 7.15pm on Friday (May 3).
Her lawyer, Salim Bashir, who confirmed this, said the 30-year-old will be escorted to the KL International Airport by the Immigration officials.
"She will be boarding a commercial flight, Vietnam Airlines, this evening," he said.
Salim said Doan was released from Kajang Prison at 7.15am and taken to the Immigration Department headquarters for paperwork.
On April 1, the Shah Alam High Court sentenced her to three years and four months' jail, after she pleaded guilty to a new charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntary causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
The sentence ran from the date of her arrest, and since Doan was entitled to a one-third remission on her sentence, she was released on Friday (May 3).
According to the alternative charge, Doan and four individuals still at large caused hurt to Kim Chol, an alias used by Jong-nam when he travelled, by using a dangerous substance known as the VX nerve agent.
The offence was committed at the departure hall of KLIA2 at 9am on Feb 13, 2017.
Doan was previously charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and would have faced the mandatory death penalty if found guilty.- Star
