Two workers hurt while installing telco cables in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: Two Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) contract workers fell while installing cables on a telecommunications tower along Jalan Kuala Abai, Kg Kual Abai here on Monday (May 20).

Miandi Ungkaris, 40, and Selverinus Dami, 28, broke their arms and legs in the incident, as well as sustained facial injuries.

A representative from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Task Force Centre said a team of 10 firemen arrived at the scene at about 5pm after a distress call was received 23 minutes earlier.

The scene was located some 12km away from the Kota Belud Fire and Rescue station.

"They were working at a height of 45m, when the cables broke and caused them to fall.

"They were sent to Hospital Kota Belud for treatment," said the representative.

The rescue mission ended at around 5.20pm.- Star
