KLIA-klia2 No. 12 in connectivity in world airports survey
PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 – collectively known as KUL – have been ranked the world’s No. 12 in airport connectivity in the latest survey by air flight data organisation Official Aviation Guide (OAG).
In the “low-cost” category, KUL heads the list of 25 airports.
KUL ranked 12th in OAG’s top 50 International Megahubs list, scoring 229 points on the connectivity index. AirAsia was the dominant carrier, with 41% share of the flights at the hub.
The top 50 International Megahubs are airports with the highest ratio of possible scheduled international connections to the number of destinations served by the airport.
London’s Heathrow Airport tops the list, followed by Frankfurt International Airport and Chicago O’Hare Airport.
Among Asian Pacific countries, Singapore’s Changi Airport ranks No. 9, and Hong Kong Airport No. 10.
In the low-cost airports category, KUL tops the list with a connectivity index of 150, with AirAsia again dominant with 41% of the share of flights.
Second is Manila International Airport, and third Singapore’s Changi Airport, both with an index of 90.
