14-Year-Old Asian American Genius Elected Student Body President of Pierce College
Vivan Yee may only be 14-years-old but she’s already thriving at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California as the president of the Associated Students Organization.
Yee was only 12 years old when she began attending the community college located in Los Angeles, the same year her 18-year-old brother began attending his college.
“I feel like age is just a number,” Yee told KCAL9 News.
She reportedly joined ASO to help her fit in with the older students and make friends. Within months, she exceeded all expectations and was appointed as a student senator, eventually being elected president.
“I had to run for president this year in front of the entire ASO senate, and they all voted for me,” Yee said with a smile.
She now has her own cubicle as president of the governing body for over twenty thousand students at the community college.
“I was so nervous the first day I was coming here, looking through all my clothes looking for something that would make me look older,” Yee said.
Despite the large age gap, it’s fair to say the young student has been flourishing in her role as President and effortlessly blending in with the older students with her incredible maturity. And it appears her own mother couldn’t be more proud of her daughter’s already long list of accomplishments.
“She would just try to blend in and then not really reveal her age until later and she’s made some pretty good friends,” the 14-year-old’s mother Lillian Yee said.
With just one more semester left at Pierce College, Yee holds a 3.95 GPA and is planning to attend a four-year university and pursue a career in medical geology.
