KLIA to check temperatures of passengers leaving country

Passengers leaving from KLIA and klia2 will now have their temperatures monitored.

PETALING JAYA: Passengers departing from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport will undergo temperature screening from tomorrow as Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad increases measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The nation’s main airport operator said thermal scanners will be placed before the check-in areas at both terminal buildings at KLIA, on Level 3 and Level 5.

The initiative, it said, will be done in stages based on the availability of the additional thermal scanners.

Temperature screening for those departing from klia2 will be conducted from Monday (March 23) onwards.

“Anyone found with a body temperature of above 38 degrees Celsius will not be allowed to go beyond the check-in areas,” it said in a statement.

Currently, three thermal scanners are located along the arrival flow of both terminals at KLIA, while two are placed at klia2.

MAHB also said in line with the recent implementation of the movement control order (MCO) by the government, it has put in place measures to promote social distancing.

“We have started putting markers at one-metre distance on the floors at the check-in, immigration and customs queueing areas.

“Likewise, gaps have been introduced in lifts and for the airport seating. The people can use them as a guide and practise social distancing.”

MAHB has also significantly increased its hygiene maintenance at the airport.

Its personnel have been instructed to continuously disinfect the airport’s common amenities and facilities such as lifts, countertops, trolleys, doorknobs and handrails. - FMT
