Singapore reports 447 new Covid-19 cases, one new death

CORONAVIRUS | Singapore which on Saturday confirmed 447 new cases of Covid-19, reported another fatality, bringing the death toll to 17.

In a statement issued late Saturday, the city-state’s Ministry of Health (MOH) said the Singaporean man, aged 76, died on May 1 at the Changi General Hospital.

The elderly patient known as case 1,323 was confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 on April 6, and had a history of cancer, said the ministry.

Singapore reported its first two death cases on March 21.

Meanwhile, case 17,410, a 47-year-old male Bangladeshi national, also died on May 1 and was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection after his demise.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of death,” said the MOH.

A Malaysian from the public healthcare sector was named among the new positive cases of Covid-19 recorded in Singapore on Saturday.

The patient labelled as case 17,267 which has no recent travel history to affected countries or regions, is currently warded at National University Hospital (NUH).

The 27-year-old male housekeeper at NUH was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on April 30 and had not gone to work since onset of symptoms.

To date, 1,347 have fully recovered from the infection in Singapore and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, while 24 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Of 447 new cases recorded on Saturday, there was no imported cases, six cases in the community, 10 work permit holders residing outside dormitories, while 431 work permit holders residing in dormitories.
