Bukit Aman: Anwar’s interview with police postponed

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s interview with the police has been postponed, says Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed.

The police had initially called up the Port Dickson MP for questioning at 11am yesterday in connection with police reports lodged against him over a list of MPs who were allegedly supporting his bid for the prime minister’s post.

“However, we were informed by his private secretary that he could only do so at 9am today.

“We then postponed the recording of his statement to a later date, ” he said in a statement yesterday.

Comm Huzir said the police were investigating the case which concerned the circulation of a list of 121 MPs who supposedly supported Anwar on social media.

“We have received six police reports regarding the matter, starting with a report lodged by the Jerantut MP on Oct 8.

“We are investigating the case under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998, ” he added.

On Sunday, an online portal alleged that Anwar “was due in Bukit Aman on Tuesday morning to have his statement recorded”.

On Oct 8, Anwar claimed that he had been granted an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today to present statutory declarations (SD) from MPs in his bid to be prime minister.

Anwar dropped the bombshell on Sept 23, days before the Sabah state election on Sept 26, where he claimed to have a strong, formidable and convincing majority to form the next government.

Various news on the list of MPs who supposedly supported him had circulated on social media recently.

Several MPs have since come forward to deny their so-called support for Anwar.

Separately, Pakatan Rakyat secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution said PKR members had been instructed not to hold any gatherings anywhere and to remain calm.

“On Tuesday, Oct 13,2020, Anwar will have an audience with His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara.

“All PKR members are hereby instructed to not hold any gatherings or to gather in any location, especially along major roads towards Istana Negara.

“PKR reminds all of its members of Parliament to continue to render their service in their respective constituencies as well as to prioritise the people’s fate and welfare during this Covid-19 pandemic, ” said Saifuddin. - Star
