PAGE wants education ministry to reveal SOPs for SPM students
PETALING JAYA: The Parent Action Group for Education (PAGE) wants the education ministry to disclose the SOPs for students sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in the event that any movement restrictions are still in place in January next year.
The group’s honorary secretary, Tunku Munawirah Putra said the education ministry has been “rather silent” on the SOPs for the SPM examinations, adding that she was concerned if there was any plan in place.
“The SOP for SPM examinations during Covid-19 must be made known as soon as possible so that schools can make the necessary preparations. There are only two more months to go,” she said in a statement.
The SPM examination is slated to be held from Jan 6 next year.
Tunku Munawirah said the arrangements for SPM, which was the most important national examination, “must be tested out carefully and urgently”.
“The best time to test it out is during the SPM trial exams after which adjustments can still be made.”
She suggested the ministry look into SOPs implemented at international schools and examination centres, such as the Cempaka School Cheras and the Sri Emas International School.
Tunku Munawirah said these schools would most likely have the highest number of students sitting for examinations, such as A-Level, O-Level and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
The SPM was supposed to be held from Nov 16 to Dec 7, 2020, before the government decided to postpone it as schools were forced to close for a number of months due to the movement control order (MCO) that was first imposed on March 18. - FMT
