YOURSAY | Second wave hits nation as complacency sets in

YOURSAY | 'I see many restaurants where customers don't even wear face mask nor practice physical distancing.'

DG: This is probably the start of a new wave

MS: This second wave was seeded by selfish, uncouth politicians and their enablers... and an unthinking population following the examples set by its leaders.

It could have been avoided had complacency not taken a hold of the Health Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Health director-general (DG) Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin have obviously learned to feed off one another, one revelling in accolades for his public handling of the situation and the other increasing his political ratings using the relatively low numbers.

Until complacence mixed with arrogance set in - a fact proved by their ignoring of the brazen Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Khairuddin Aman Razali caper (which has been serially ignored by the Attorney-General’s Chambers) and then allowing, for purely political reasons, the free ingress of the infected from Sabah.

One would have thought the two of them would have decided to not do what they did for the greater good of the larger population - but like the obedient servant the DG is, and the desperate power-hungry politician Muhyiddin has always been, they bent the rules to accommodate their own agendas. They ignored the known facts of the contagion and its second coming with a vengeance.

And now the rest of the country, in the grip of imbecility, has to pay the price, and some will - with their lives.

IndigoKite6964: The deed is done. It is too late now and we cannot turn back the clock. Those Very Very Irresponsible People (VVIPs) are back from Sabah and are among us.

Let's keep our cool but never forget what happened. There will be a time when we can do something about it, apart from just commenting.

Since the politicians have failed us as far as Covid-19 prevention is concerned, we must now save the day and the economy. Let us do what is necessary so as not to contract the disease ourselves and not to pass it on. Stay safe, everyone.

Salvage Malaysia: Most of the cases are caused by clutters such as prison, detention camps, etc, where physical distancing is hardly practised, and worse, at political gatherings and political campaigns.

I see many restaurants where customers don’t even wear face mask nor practice physical distancing. Where’s the enforcement?

The Health Ministry keeps reminding the public to adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP). In general, most of us are adhering pretty well. The worst culprits are the politicians.

Mocacola: Did they not see this coming? It does not take an Einstein to see the effects of the election in Sabah, and now former Sabah chief minister Shafie Apdal apologises for it.

The curve was flattening and we can feel how Malaysians were starting to feel more elevated, more positive about surviving this battle. We can just feel how Malaysians have emotionally, mentally even financially benefited when the lockdown has been lifted. We were struggling, some unfortunate ones had it worse.

Now, thanks to the politicians, the ministers whose job could possibly be done better by properly educated youngsters, thanks to their greed, we are facing our past horror again. Maybe even worse this time.

Ipoh PP: Consider who triggered the state election in Sabah? Wasn't it the jumping frogs? Who was responsible for withdrawing the charges against the alleged 'thief' and setting him on a mission to destabilise Sabah?

Total blame must go to those in Putrajaya.

Snowman: Our politicians, by virtue and right, should be showing a good example to the people when it comes to Covid-19 SOP compliances. Instead, they are too busy politicking and feeding their own ego, thirst for wealth and hunger for power.

Just look at their campaigning photos - no social distancing, and some of them even pulled their masks down. Yet, they talk about how great the state and country will be under their fantastic leadership.

They knew all their press conferences will gain loads of attention, yet none of them uses these to educate and inform the people (that they said they loved and cared about) on the importance of adhering to safety protocols.

Without the DG and his team of obsessively dedicated Health Ministry people (and I don't mean the Minister of Warm Water himself), we'd be finished.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Noor Hisham, as Health DG, how did you allow this to reach this level? You were lax with the irresponsible cabinet members as well the well-heeled politicians.

You were like any other subservient civil servant looking after his rice bowl while the people, who pay your salary, do not matter. What the masters want, they get.

If the people’s real mandate were in power now, you would be facing disciplinary action for dereliction of duty. I repeat this as I have said elsewhere.

Mazilamani: Blaming the DG is as good as discrediting the good work by frontliners who have been risking their lives and health for the last seven months.

Why not blame the irresponsible and indiscipline Malaysians who feel that it is fashionable to ignore the advice and guidelines of the Health Ministry.

Let me ask how many working adults head straight for a shower after returning from work, and not having a second thought about the harm brought on family members, especially the elderly and children. This happens in a good many homes.

What is so important about interstate travel during long weekend holidays and organising family functions during the pandemic? It has nothing to do with ignorance but pure idiotic attitude.

Do these people realise the problem of energy and expenses incurred by the government on each Covid-19 victim?

We cannot afford another MCO (movement control order) bringing industries and businesses to a grinding halt and to face the after-effects. - Mkini
