Syed Saddiq questions MOH’s priorities after it lights up Putrajaya for frontliners

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has questioned the Health Ministry’s priorities after it launched a frontliner appreciation campaign that involved lighting up parts of Putrajaya.

This is while the Covid-19 pandemic has exposed gaps in healthcare infrastructure across the country.

It was recently reported that medical personnel in Sabah had to use their personal vehicles as ambulances for patients from flooded rural areas.

In a Facebook post today, Syed Saddiq wondered how struggling frontliners in Sabah would feel appreciated by the ministry’s campaign.

“Fortunately there is this programme to appreciate all our health workers. Our frontliners might feel abandoned and under-appreciated if Putrajaya was not lit up with blue lights.

“Meanwhile, there are frontliners in Sabah who have to use their own four-wheel drives to transport patients to the hospital.

“But maybe Sabah frontliners will be able to feel some of the blue light from Putrajaya as a sign that they are appreciated,” he quipped.

His sarcastic comment was directed at Deputy Health Minister I Noor Azmi Ghazali, who had launched the “LightUpBlue@Putrajaya” campaign in conjunction with World Diabetes Day on Saturday.

The campaign runs from 7pm tonight until Sunday (Nov 15) and will see Putrajaya buildings and bridges illuminated in blue light “as a sign of support and appreciation to the nurses and frontliners who continue to provide diabetes care services”.

A poster of the event said that the campaign was supported by pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk Malaysia.
