PN beefs up on Sabah leaders

The Perikatan Nasional coalition of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has appointed two Sabah leaders, Star's Jeffrey Kitingan and SAPP's Yong Teck Lee, as deputy chairpersons.

According to a statement, the pair are set to join Bersatu's Ahmad Faizal Azumu and PAS’ president Abdul Hadi Awang as deputies in the coalition.

Star secretary-general Senator Guandee Kohoi and SAPP’s deputy president Edward Dagul were also appointed to the PN supreme council.

Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, who heads Sabah PN, was effusive in his gratitude over the appointments, thanking Muhyiddin.

“This appointment is a great trust to shape and strengthen the organisation and work of the party from the state to the grassroots levels,” he said.

“We’re also strengthening cooperation between PN, BN and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) in order to form a strong agreement in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), thus strengthening the GRS government in fulfilling its trust and responsibilities to the people.”

The Muhyiddin government is an informal coalition comprising PN parties, the BN coalition of Umno, MIC and MCA, GRS as well as Sarawak's Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

PN was officially registered by the Registrar of Societies in advance of the Sabah state elections last year and comprises just Bersatu, PAS, Star and SAPP.

Following much tension between Umno and Bersatu, which saw Annuar Musa removed as BN secretary-general this week, PAS is meeting to discuss its relationship with the two parties. - Mkini
