Police to investigate FT minister over dining in with six others

GoldenTrout5780: I am darn disappointed with the double standards happening in this country.

If Malaysia is likened to a school, then Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin would be a failed headmaster, he does not even care or dare to punish his ‘teachers’ - the ministers.

We have seen many obvious cases breaching the standard operating procedures (SOPs), but Muhyiddin - while emphasising that we should not have double standards in this country - chose to stay silent and pretend as if nothing happened.

I think many of us would definitely agree that the current cabinet is full of incapable 'teachers' and a backdoor 'headmaster'.

Sadly for us, it is the rakyat who are helpless at the moment. I desperately hope for a better Malaysia soonest.

Jabba The Hutt: On the same day (as Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa’s lunch), 13 individuals sitting at a very big table in a restaurant in Petaling Jaya for a Chinese New Year dinner - surely seated a metre apart - were each fined RM1,000 just because the SOP said that only two were allowed to be seated at a table even if the table was the size of a football field.

Here we have seven individuals, including the minister, sitting at a single table. So what is there to investigate? Slap the RM1,000 fine on each of them.

Caripasal: In other similar cases involving ordinary people, they were summoned on the spot or asked to surrender themselves at a police station.

When it involved a minister, they opted to open an investigation. No wonder, he allegedly committed the same offence but the police dare not take action against him.

May we know the result of the investigation resulting from Annuar’s three-person walk? Did the police discharge him just because he is a minister?

KeyPoint: When a member of the public is caught in a shop and/or restaurant for not following the SOP, both the customer and business owner are fined straightaway. So why in this case is there a need for a police report and then to wait for an investigation?

Is it because he’s a minister? This is not the first time, which is why people are laughing at this country.

VioletPigeon9616: Great question, @KeyPoint. Unfortunately, the answer is clear.

They will not be fined like ordinary rakyat because they are powerful politicians. Just watch and see – the case will quietly disappear and be swept under the carpet. This is Malaysia.

GreenMoose7204: As a minister, one would feel compelled to seek clarification from the organiser prior to attending the event, even for a few seconds.

But no, it is "I am the Federal Territories minister, hence untouchable. So, what is a RM1,000 fine? Small money in exchange for the support I am getting to further my political aspirations".

That has been the attitude of our ministers from BN and now Perikatan Nasional (PN).

We only hope those who are supporting them open their eyes to the arrogance and in turn support those who are humble and ever so willing to back the rakyat without all these shenanigans.

JustMe: Why on earth do you think foreign investors would still want to come and pump their money in this country?

We have a picture and proof of all six people sitting together flaunting the current SOPs and the police want to open an investigation paper?

How many times have we read an investigation paper being opened, and then no mention of the result/outcome later? Another new story will take centre stage tomorrow and all these would have been forgotten.

Please police, have the integrity to do your job without fear and favour. Black is black, white is white, call a spade a spade. There is no need to waste taxpayers' money by opening "investigation" papers.

Malaysian1: I rather the authorities focus resources on ensuring the SOPs are followed in prisons and training centres. Try to nip potential clusters in the bud.

As for the minister's explanation, if you can accept a similar explanation from a layman, then accept the minister's explanation.

Jaycee: Just stop the hypocrisy with all these coincidences.

Just say there are two sets of laws here. One for the ministers, their families, cronies, and the rich elites. This group of people can flout SOPs during any movement control order (movement control order) and they are not subjected to any fines.

And there is another for the rest of the rakyat. And we better follow the SOPs diligently, so help us, God.

R Venugopal: Indeed, do not waste time investigating as you will end up with NFA (no further action). Annuar is untouchable and this is a known fact. The PM needs his votes.

Secondly, our PM does not reprimand his ministers as he is very scared of them. Why? Otherwise, he would be kicked out of his post as PM.

Two Come Out: Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin wants to probe those who oppose the emergency.

But he is very silent on fellow ‘lompat’ ministers who have clearly broken MCO SOPs, not once but many times.

It is all about fear of losing support and then losing power.
