Storm-damaged roof at flats in Keramat to be repaired soon
FIVE families affected by a storm that blew off the roof over their AU2 flats in Taman Keramat can expect to have a new roof fixed by next week.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who visited the area with Ampang Jaya Municipal Council president Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim on Thursday evening, said Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) would bear the cost of repair, estimated to be RM60,000.
“Repair works will commence as soon as possible and will be completed in four to five days.
“My office also contributed RM1,000 to each of the five affected households, to help with their preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, ” he said.
The piece of roofing was ripped off by strong winds during a downpour on Wednesday afternoon.
Block E residents representative Mat Suukhri Daud said the incident, which occurred at about 1.45pm, caused the roof over five units to dislodge and drop onto the ground behind the block.
No casualty or property damage was reported, he said when contacted.
“We put up a plastic sheet provided by PKNS to temporarily cover the exposed units.
“MPAJ personnel came and removed the fallen roof at 9.30pm that same day, ” said Mat Suukhri.
Taman Keramat Flats Residents Association, in a statement on its Facebook page, asked for immediate action to be taken to avoid further damage to the building.
“This will make it more difficult for residents who are preparing for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, ” said the association.
Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib, in a statement on his Facebook page, said he and representatives from Zone 4 residents committee rushed to the scene upon learning of the incident.
He advised residents to be vigilant during the rainy season to avoid any untoward incidents.
When contacted, MPAJ public relations officer Norhayati Ahmad said the AU2 flats were under PKNS’ management. - Star
