Cops probe claim Kedah MB breached SOP with test drive, aide says just looking
Police are probing allegations that Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor (above) breached total lockdown SOPs by allegedly test driving a vehicle at a showroom in Penang recently.
Vehicle showrooms and dealerships are not allowed to operate during the total lockdown.
Meanwhile, Sanusi’s political secretary confirmed that the menteri besar had dropped by a dealership in Juru, Penang yesterday, but said that Sanusi was “just looking”, and did not test drive any vehicles.
According to Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamuddin, his boss had stopped to buy food while on his way to Kuala Lumpur, and that by coincidence there was a Ford dealership next door.
“There was a salesperson arranging Ford Rangers outside the showroom.
“So the menteri besar went to have a look, not to buy it, just to have a look... It would be weirder if he was lurking,” he said in a Facebook posting in the wee hours of today.
Afnan Hamimi was responding to social media posts alleging that Sanusi had actually gotten into one of the vehicles and had taken it for a test drive.
One post alleged that there were three people in the test driven vehicle - another alleged violation of SOPs which limit vehicle passengers to two.
Afnan Hamimi, however, said this was fake, and that no test drive occured.
“After he bought his food, the menteri besar continued his journey to KL. The Ford Ranger stayed in Juru... There was no test drive,” he said.
It is unclear why Sanusi headed down to Kuala Lumpur, but Afnan Hamimi said the menteri besar was allowed to travel out of district and state as part of an “essential service”.
Meanwhile, Bernama cited Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Shafee Abd Samad as saying that police would be investigating the incident.
“Police will call everyone involved, including the menteri besar,” he said. - Mkini
