Minister apologises for dine-in session in violation of SOP

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mustapa Mohamed, who is in charge of the economy, has apologised for breaching the standard operating procedure (SOP) against Covid-19.

This was after he dined in at a cafe in his constituency of Jeli in Kelantan.

"Mustapa admits he was served food at Alfath Cafe in Kampung Kalai, Jeli on Saturday.

"Following the circulation of his picture at the cafe, the Jeli district police chief contacted him this afternoon and informed him that an investigation paper had been opened.

"He apologises for the SOP violation and leaves it to the police to take the appropriate action," Mustapa's office said in a statement tonight.

The minister's office said he had visited the cafe at 5.30pm on June 26 to learn about how the cafe was keeping afloat amid the total lockdown.

The cafe later shared photographs of the visit and thanked Mustapa for hearing out their plight.

However, the photographs went viral as dine-in was not allowed during the lockdown.

Food outlets are only allowed to sell food through takeaways, delivery and drive-through services. - Mkini
