BALIK PULAU: A video clip purportedly showing a man being reprimanded for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl has been making its rounds in cyberspace.
In the four-minute-plus clip, he is seen being scolded by several people said to be family members of the victim, who is now 14.
The alleged rape was said to have taken place three years ago.
One of the family members could be heard yelling at the man in Hokkien: “How could you do that to an 11-year-old girl? Do you have kids at home? Would you do that to them?”
Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A.A. Anbalagan said they had since detained a 49-year-old man to facilitate investigations after the girl lodged a police report on Monday (Oct 29).
He said the man, who has been remanded for five days since Tuesday (Oct 30), was picked up in Relau.
“We are investigating the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape."
It is learnt that in the police report, the girl claimed that she was raped by the man a few times at two locations in both Balik Pulau and George Town districts.
The incident came to light after the girl "accidentally" told her aunt about it a few days ago.
The girl’s family then confronted the man before lodging a police report.- Star
