NEW NAME FOR BN – GABUNGAN PARTI SEMENANJUNG: MALAYSIANS HAVE REJECTED ‘BARANG NAIK (BN)’ – NAZRI MOOTS NAME CHANGE FOR ONCE-MIGHTY COALITION
KUALA LUMPUR: Padang Rengas MP and former minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz says it may be time for Barisan Nasional to consider changing its name, due to the brand’s unpopularity with Malaysians.
He suggested for the coalition to do away with its current name and consider a new name, such as Gabungan Parti Semenanjung, following new coalitions such as Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Bersatu Sabah.
Don’t you think it’s a good idea? I’m serious. Because Barisan is no more. It’s no longer popular in Sabah.
“Malaysians have rejected (BN). Barang Naik,” he quipped to reporters at the Parliament lobby on Wednesday (Oct 31).
On Oct 27, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that Barisan will be restructured and rebranded to strengthen its efforts to wrest Putrajaya back in the 15th general election.
This follows coalition shirking down to just four parties – Umno, MCA, MIC and MyPPP, after BN’s disastrous showing in GE14.
