Hello Sir, (just for you to reflect. You may write this from your perspective). I wish to be anynomous due to the Organization I represent.

I personally have been in three wars – Afghanistan, Libya and in Sri Lanka.

More recently I was in Sulawesi, three days after a devastating earthquake and Tsunami. Sense of dejavu. Stench of death is sick.

I can always remember the thousands of bodies I saw in Banda Aceh in 2005.

Recently, many of the ignorant people of Malaysia have been rhetorical, threatening May 13, violence and mayhem.

I find it more absurd for a Punjabi guy to get into this idiocy.

Anyways, I believe that if this ever happens, the ones that will suffer will be the Malays. They are not prepared for this.

The current generation, including the generation that is making our lives difficult  (The generation of Najib and Co) have no clue about war, violence, displacement and the impact it will present to the lives of normal people.

When I was in Palu, I realized how a small-scale disaster such as this had  a profound impact on the lives of people in that small town. The first one week, there was  no power supply, no water, no food and basic services. It was a mini Armageddon. Thousands of people were displaced and many more fled the town. The exodus was massive. People went mad. That’s a small disaster with 200,000 people affected.

Conflict, in general has a devastating effect on human lives. More so if it is in a country that has never seen conflict in 70 years.

A big chunk of the population in Malaysia has not seen or experienced conflict in this country. It is easy to brandish your knives and threaten to launch a war on minorities. It is easy to say these things, but it becomes too late for regret when it becomes a reality.

Our country does not have a sound policy, guidelines or SOP to manage conflict and recovery activities in the modern sense.

May 13 is a dinosaur and in comparison the social-economic impact of a 21st century conflict in Malaysia will be devastating. It may take years or decades for Malaysia to recover from it.

I dislike the way bloggers amplify these threats.
I hope they know what the hell they are talking about.
This is very irresponsible of them.

From my first hand experience this is what normally happens in a country seeing conflict for the first time in many years "

  • Break down of basic social structures – people become zombies – have you watched the movie World War Z?
  • Break down of basic services – electricity, water, fuel and health (if you are on insulin, make sure you have supply for 10 weeks)
  • Collapse of logistics
  • Pyscho-socio breakdown of the general population – trauma etc
  • Displacement of people
  • Looting, riots and mayhem spreads.
  • Flight disruption, airport closure
  • Massive exodus of tourist, foreign workers / expatriates
  • Collapse of the Stock Exchange
  • Collapse of the currency
  • Reports in social media worldwide
  • Threats of economic sanctions
  • Communication systems breakdown

They question will linger –
  1. What will happen to social mobility post conflict?
  2. What will be the recovery plan?
  3. What will be the outlook of the nation internationally?
  4. What will happen to the social structure?

I hope they have answers for all this.

My comments :  In 1969 the May 13th riots was not a major conflict. It happened just 12 years after Merdeka in 1957.

My view is the May 13th riots was a direct result of the separation of Singapore and Malaysia FOUR YEARS earlier in 1965 and the overall incompetence of Tunku Abdul Rahman in running the country.

It was bound to happen. We had become independent but there was little economic development (infrastructural growth) or nation building (uniting the people).  I remember in primary school in Ipoh, it was name calling and throwing racial insults all the way or most of the way. It was a different era.  We do not want to return to that era.

The May 13th incident was compounded by prejudice, bigotry, racism, ignorance and foolishness mostly in the urban areas. There was almost zero racial conflict in high Malay majority areas like Kelantan or Perlis.

Then the country compounded the mistake. To fix the wrongs the country took a steep dive into 'affirmative action' aka the New Economic Policy.

Affirmative action has its pluses but in Malaysia the ruling people, the Malays were too far behind in social and economic development. The situation could have been fixed and completely turned around in 20 or 30 years.

But unfortunately it did not. Their leaders did not and do not know what is best for the development of the Malays. Until today. It has been a tikus membaiki labu situation ever since.  They compounded the problem.

Some mistakes are easy to be fixed. These are the low hanging fruit.  Switching the school system to Malay from the English has confirmed the condemnation of the Malays to "backwardness forever".

Have you listened to "Malay intellectuals" talking on TV?
Have you listened to Malay religious experts speaking on TV?
Have you listened to Malay dramas and shows on TV ?

The fix is easy - just switch it back. This is the lowest hanging fruit. Kalau ini pun tak faham, nak kata apa lagi?

Then came the Pinatubo type eruption that shrouded the entire Malay  mind with a 100 feet of volcanic ash. Which harded with rain and became solid as concrete.

I am talking about religion, the arabisation of religion and the overdose of religion in the school curriculum, on school campuses, in school canteens (Kantin untuk Melayu ??  Aiyyo mama !!), in the universities, in the Civil Service etc.

This overdoes of religion and arabisation has sealed the Malay mind in concrete.

The steep dive into affirmative action and the NEP has turned into a tail spin and out of control.  It has become a kamikaze dive.

The fix is still very, very, easy - just take out arabisation and religion from everywere. Like it was before the arabisation.  This is also the lowest hanging fruit. Kalau ini pun tak faham, nak kata apa lagi?

Affirmative action became confused with political jingoism, notions of racial superiority (most ridiculously camouflaged as racial dominance).  It was doomed (and will) fail because of a simple reason : the Malays are neither dominant nor superior vis a vis the Chinese, Indians and now the Banglas and Indons. This is the reality.

No one can be "dominant" for ever.
If at all, dominance and superiority - really there is NO such thing - belongs to people who can work hard.
People who do not waste time.

Those who work hard shall be dominant and superior. How does that sound?

But is there change after so many years of the affirmative action, dominance etc? Nope. There is only  jingoism. Jingoism means chauvinism. And it is becoming worse.

Are they solving the problem?
Are they changing for the better?

N O P E.

Today in Malaysia's difficult economic environment, employers who need to minimise cost to earn a tiny profit prefer to pay hard working and more disciplined foreign workers (Banglas, Indons) higher salaries than local Malay workers.  Read this :

This is NOT racial discrimination.
Indon and Melayu sama brader.
Filipino pun Melayu.
Bangla pula 'Isle' - sama agama.
But they are paid more than the Malays.

Why? Because they work. They can really work.  You give the Bangla instructions once he can follow through. Melayu pula datang kerja on time pun jadi isu - tahap kindergarten lagi.

My 'business partner' the Malay contractor has survived almost exclusively by hiring Indon workers. His long time Indon supervisor is paid as much as an assistant manager at a bank.

Its like this : SOMEONE HAS TO DO THE WORK

If the locals cannot work, then the Indons and Banglas or the Indians and Myanmars or the Pakistanis (the latest wave of immigrants) and Filipinos will do the job.

Why? Because  SOMEONE  HAS TO DO THE WORK.

You go to the pasar and buy tomatoes and cabbages without even thinking once where and how those cabbages and tomatoes come from.

Where do the tomatoes and cabbages come from?

They come from here :

Why?  BECAUSE SOMEONE  HAS TO DO THE WORK.

I can assure you there are few lazy people in the Cameron Highlands.  Our favorite 'suddenly lets go for tea in Camerons' tea spot is Bharat Tea Plantations, owned  by my classmate (from ACS Ipoh).

They work hard. Hard work leads to success.

Ok back to planet earth - to all the Chinese people and all the Indian people and all the other races out there.

The present situation in the country - the racial posturing and the hooliganism - is all political. People on both sides (the other side and some on 'our' side) are taking advantage of the situation.

They want to put pressure on Tun Dr Mahathir and break up or weaken the Pakatan Harapan.  If they weaken either Dr Mahathir, Pakatan Harapan or both their idea is that there can be a new 'power sharing equation' - minus Dr Mahathir.

They do not want Dr Mahathir as PM - FULL STOP.

A "new" PM can take over,  many of the crooks waiting for the axe to fall will walk freely again. They can form a new power coalition. They will steal and rape as usual. After another 5 years the country will really break down. Permanently.

They really have no problems with the DAP.
They will most likely be willing to cooperate with the DAP.
All this DAP taunting is just political wayang.

So do not react foolishly.
Do not comment unneccesarily.
Trust the Law and the Police.
We are in power now.

Now is the time to be Christian.
Turn the other cheek.

They are afraid.
There is no more easy money.
The future looks bleak.
Because they do not yet understand what is work.

So extend a hand. Show and share.
I have no fish but I know where the fish are.
Better still "I have an extra fishing net".

Show friendliness and kindness.
That there really is nothing to be afraid of.

We are all in the boat together.
Now is the time to be neighbours and friends.
