KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 83 people have been arrested in connection with the fracas at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25, says Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun (pic).
The Inspector-General of Police said that the police were actively hunting other suspects, including witnesses sought by the Bukit Aman CID.
"As of 8am on Tuesday (Dec 4), a total of 83 men have been detained to assist investigations into the trouble at the temple.
"We are still investigating and those who broke the law will be detained," he told a press conference after presenting diplomas to Unikop college students at the Police Training College.
On Monday, Bukit Aman CID issued and distributed pictures of 28 witnesses wanted to assist investigations into the temple fracas.
"We hope those required by CID will come forward as soon as possible," the IGP said.
Asked about the Cabinet decision on Dec 2 to withdraw a moratorium on a number of preventive laws to handle the temple fracas, Mohamad Fuzi said the police would uphold the rule of law regardless.
"We will take action as we see fit to ensure the safety and security of the public," he said.- Star
