PAS TREMBLES ON NEWS 2 OF ITS MPs HAVE MET DR MAHATHIR WITHOUT THEIR PARTY’S KNOWLEDGE – EVEN AS MUKHRIZ TRIES TO DOWNPLAY HIS DAD’S AGGRESSIVE MOVES ON UMNO MPs

AS Umno reels from the departure of scores of its members in recent days, Islamic party PAS has revealed that two of its own parliamentarians met Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad without the party’s knowledge, Sinar Harianreported.
However, the report quoted PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man as saying that meetings with the prime minister were nothing extraordinary.
“I have heard of such meetings. But with Dr Mahathir as prime minister, he is normally open to visits from anyone.
“Even I have met (Dr Mahathir) three to four times,” he said.
Tuan Ibrahim was commenting on reports that two PAS MPs had met Dr Mahathir recently, triggering talk that they would be crossing over to the ruling government side as well.
“In situations like this, people will definitely assume a lot. But the concept of a dinner is normal,” he said.
Yesterday, Dr Mahathir revealed that five Umno leaders – led by deputy president Mohamad Hasan – had met him a few months ago to seek advice on how to leave the party.
Mohamad had said the meeting was to seek a reprieve for Umno’s deregistration after pictures – of himself, Tanjung Karang MP Noh Omar, Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Larut MP Hamzah Zainuddin and Arau MP Shahidan Kassim – had surfaced online.
Umno has seen scores of its members, including MPs, quit the party in recent days, with many citing party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s inability to lead as their motivating factor.

Bersatu not bolstering party with ex-Umno leaders, says Mukhriz
THE trend of Umno members quitting the party and joining Bersatu is not a tactic to strengthen the latter with additional seats in Parliament, said Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir.
He said it was a democratic right for people to join whichever party they liked, but depended on whether the party leadership accepted or rejected their applications.
“This was what I told my component partners; that in the practice of democracy, we do not need to reject any parties wishing to join Pakatan Harapan (PH) as it is not certain he will join Bersatu as some may join Warisan or maybe PKR, Amanah or DAP.
“So, we should be open. I understand the concerns of component partners and we have explained to them that there is no desire to strengthen the position of Bersatu with more MPs,” he said after a back to school uniform contribution programme in Jerlun today.
He was commenting on the recent departures of several Umno leaders who joined Bersatu, which had sparked concern among PH component parties.
Mukhriz said PH component parties need not fret over the situation as Bersatu would keep to agreed to cooperation agreement and would not take action that could adversely affect PH.
He also said that Bersatu was not a party for former Umno leaders to seek protection from investigations by the police or Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“We will seriously vet any wishing to be members and even, after becoming members, such leaders will not be protected from the police or MACC. We will allow legal courses of action to take place,” he said.
On the six Umno MPs who quit their party yesterday, he said Bersatu had yet to receive any applications from them to join Bersatu.
