REBELLION IN BERSATU? MALACCA IN CRISIS AFTER PERLIS INFIGHTING – WARLORDS MOVE TO BRING IN THEIR OWN LOYALISTS AHEAD OF APRIL PARTY POLLS

MALACCA Bersatu is the latest in the party’s state chapters to face internal trouble just as it is trying to sort out the mess in Perlis, and Negri Sembilan before that.
The situation in Malacca is caused by the removal of Ruslin Hassan as the coordinator for the Ayer Limau state seat by state chief Mohd Redzuan Yusof.
Ruslin and his supporters claimed others had also been removed, and suggested this was part of a move by Redzuan to strengthen his position in the April party polls.
The removal was made via a letter dated January 10, informing Ruslin that he had been replaced by Sabirin Jaafar, effective the next day.
“As far as I am concerned, my removal did not follow the party’s standard operating procedures. Even the letter was dated January 10, telling me that it is effective the very next day.
“This is such a short notice and does not follow the normal procedure for someone who is given a notice. There must at least be a 14-day or a week’s notice,” he said when met on Saturday.
Earlier, he had lodged a complaint to the party headquarters, urging for it to interfere to clear the mess in Malacca.
He had the support of some 40 Malacca Bersatu leaders who backed the call for the headquarters’ interference into the state matter.
Among them were Malacca Bersatu Youth (Armada) chief Ramlan Meon, the state women wing’ head Azalina Abdul Rahman and several other representatives from the divisions in Malacca.
According to one of them, Redzuan was making his move now in time for the coming party polls in April.
“He is preparing to bring in his own line-up of leaders,” said the Malacca Bersatu leader who refused to be named.
Prior to his new appointment, Sabirin was the coordinator for the Masjid Tanah parliamentary seat. He was defeated by Umno’s Mas Ermieyati Samsudin in the seat in the 14th general election. Mas Ermieyati has since then joined Bersatu.
Ruslin also claimed there were several other leaders who had been similarly removed by the state leadership.
“This has to do with the state leader’s mismanagement or failure to carry out duties responsibly. This can destroy the party,” he said.
The situation in Malacca is the latest to hit Bersatu. Last week, the party headquarters had taken over the running of the party in Perlis following complaints of mismanagement and abuse of power there.
Things came to a boil in Perlis with the removal of Wan Saiful Wan Jan as state secretary, supposedly on grounds of his busy schedule as the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) chairman.
Wan Saiful, however, then disclosed there were corruption, abuse of power and cronyism in the state, with someone even impersonating him to rent cars in Perlis.
Following that, the party headquarters decided to take over the state chapter.
In September, Bersatu dissolved all its divisions in Negri Sembilan, and appointed veteran politician Rais Yatim to help reorganise the party in the state following a series of problems.
