Here is an insightful piece of writing by Mariam Mokhtar on the forum about the Rome Statute  that was held yesterday.  I have truncated some. You can read her full article at that link.  

My comments follow in blue.

Will four kangkung professors apologise to nation, royals for lying, misleading 

Will four kangkung professors be charged under Sedition Act, POCA or SOSMA  
for attempting to cause disharmony and threaten national security?

four kangkung professors deliberately misled royals, ..to oppress the rakyat?

Did royals seek independent advice to confirm the kangkung professors?

At least two of the royals are academics. Why didn’t they question what was obviously a misrepresentation of the truth? 

COWARD KANGKUNG PROFESSORS

The four academics are 

i) IIUM law professor Shamrahayu Abdul Aziz

(ii) and (iii) Usim law lecturers Fareed Mohd Hassan, Hisham Hanapi,

(iv) Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) law professor Rahmat Mohamad 

Despite being invited two declined, two failed to respond 

suddenly lost their tongues 
cannot defend in public, what they have written
They have caused so much division in the nation

THE ROME STATUTE

ICC - prosecution of those responsible for international crimes 
genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression.

ICC act on “principle of complementarity” 
local enforcement authorities primary responsibility to prosecute 
serious international crimes under Malaysian laws in domestic courts

DR SYED HUSIN ALI

explained how three Rs used to frighten Malays 
Malay feudal mentality helps to perpetuate these fears

My comments :

This is another case of "cocoon" meets the real world. 

The cocoon has failed miserably - again. 

Look alikes, think alikes, religion alike, smell alike.
The Cocoon Club.

Who chose those four kangkung professors? 

The 'Cocoon Club' obviously ?

Someone must have been behind this idea for these FOUR professors to brief the rulers.

As Mariam Mokhtar asks why didnt the Rulers get different views or opinions? 

The Attorney General is appointed by the YDP Agong. 

It is a Royal appointment. 

Meaning the AG can or should also advise the YDP Agong. 

So why wasnt the AG called to advise the Rulers about the ICC?

This is a strictly legal matter.

Instead unknown professors with no locus standi were called to advise the Rulers.

Now lets talk about DR MAHATHIR'S WAYANG

The young student Asheeq Ali is correct.

"Asheeq blamed Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his government for being “completely irresponsible” when they blamed others over the confusion and the ultimate decision to withdraw from both the Rome Statute and Icerd."

Asheeq is on the dot. 

Dont blame the Rulers. 

It was Dr Mahathir and the Pakatan government who chickened out.   
Why are you afraid? 
Who asked you to pull out of the ICC?

You have the majority in Parliament. 

You have the people behind you. 

The voters have given you the majority vote to effect change in the country.

And yet you ignored the voters. 

Instead you gave in to the pressure groups who are NOT your voters.

Basically Dr Mahathir and the Pakatan government are saying "Thank you for your vote but we do not need it anymore."

So what is the point now of crying "Boo hoo hoo, we were forced to pull out".

Forced you to pull out?  How?

Who forced you to pull out?

How were you forced to pull out? 

You have the majority support of the voters.

You have the majority seats in the Legislature.

This is a legal procedure. 

Ok if that was the case,  then just  change the decision.
Its never too late to correct mistakes.

Call the United Nations and tell them, 'Oops a slight administrative error. WE are back. We will now ratify the Rome Statute'. 

Go ahead and do it.

Because this forum was attended by the Attorney General - who said clearly that the government CAN and SHOULD ratify the Rome Statute.

Plus now we know the Raja - Raja were fooled and  manipulated by the four kangkung professors.

So go ahead and do it.   
Tell the Rome people Malaysia will sign and ratify the Statute.

Just say "Oops sorry".  

Can or cannot ?

Itu pun tak boleh?

So it looks like a wayang is going on.

Before this there was the Sedition Act.

We agreed the Sedition Act will go.

After the May 9th victory the new Pakatan government even announced it.

The Sedition Act was even  put into the freezer (moratorium).

Buy now the Sedition Act is back.

Why? Who does the Sedition  Act protect? 

Definitely also the Royals.  The richest, wealthiest, most influential, statutorily most powerful group of NINE people in Malaysia have to be protected from the "skinny" citizenry? 

Wow !  

The people  can be punished through the Sedition Act just  for  saying things? 

You have a Sedition Act to lock people up in jail  - just for saying things that you dont like to hear?

The people gave Dr Mahathir their trust and the mandate to abolish the Sedition Act. That trust has been abused.

Now you complain "the sultan this, the sultan that, nye nye nye.."

What is the point of complaining now? 

This is just main wayang. 

This is just insulting the people who voted for the Pakatan and gave the mandate to make the changes.  The power of the majority is behind you. Why are you ignoring your voters and supporters?

The Sultans CANNOT walk into Parliament and tell the Parliament to vote for or against any legislation.
The Sultans cannot walk into the Cabinet and tell the Cabinet how to make policy.
That is impossible.

So please do not tai chi the issue to the Sultans.

It was the Pakatan Harapan government 

that pulled back on the ICERD
pulled back on the Sedition Act and now 
they have pulled back on the ICC.

NO ONE ELSE.

And as Dato Farida said, the agreement to the Rome Statute was pushed by Najib Razak and UMNO / BN  FROM EIGHT YEARS AGO.

(I believe the ratification of the ICERD was also pushed by Najib Razak and UMNO / BN.)

Now it is Dr Mahathir and Pakatan who have pulled the plug on both, PLUS backpedalling on abolishing the Sedition Act.

DONT BLAME THE SULTANS.
DONT BLAME UMNO / BN 

The DYMM Raja Melayu must also be advised  that the respect and regard for the Rulers will multiply many times over if the Rulers DO NOT NEED to be legally protected FROM the people by things like the Sedition Act.

Proof : In Denmark, United Kingdom, Sweden, Holland etc there is no Sedition Act to protect the Rulers FROM people speaking about them or against them. Their Rulers have nothing to fear from the people. Because their Rulers behave in a manner that earns the peoples regard and respect.  Even if people make fun or criticise the Rulers, it does not matter because the Rulers position is protected by their Laws and their Constitutions. 

But lets get back to planet earth.

In the meantime, the number of unemployed in Malaysia has reached 516,000.

Tens of thousands more will be joining the unemployment line.

Over a million Banglas are fully employed in Malaysia.

Over two million Indons are also fully employed in Malaysia.

The super rich are getting richer.

The influential have begun to 'sapu projek' again.

The vested interests have re-penetrated Putrajaya.

Its same old same old. 

The education system is not going to change.

The Education Minister is not going to be fired. 

There will be NO liberalising the economy.

There will be no deregulation in the economy.

More APs are being issued.

The railway track has a new alignment and maybe new sub-contractors as well.

Old boys are back. But they are "our boys" now.   

Same old same old.

The rest is just wayang. 
To keep you all occupied. 
Its a distraction.
