Senator who blamed Christchurch attack on Muslim immigrants loses seat

Australian senator Fraser Anning, who attributed the mosque shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand to Muslim immigration, has lost his seat in the senate.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Anning garnered more votes in the national election, but still failed to retain his Queensland seat.

The 69-year-old politician, from the newly formed far-right Fraser Anning's Conservative National Party, blamed New Zealand's policy of letting “Muslim fanatics” migrate to the country shortly after a suspected white supremacist opened fire on two mosques in Christchurch.

At least 51 people were killed in the March 15 massacre, including Malaysians.

Shortly after the comment, Anning was egged by a teenager, which he responded to by punching the boy. - Mkini
