Skies open at dusk, but search continues for Irish teen

Search and rescue operations (SAR) to locate 15-year-old Nora Anne Quoirin continued through the fading light of dusk today despite a heavy downpour in the thick forest surrounding The Dusun Resort where the Franco-Irish teenager is believed to have gone missing.
Nilai district police chief Supt Mohd Nor Marzukee Besar confirmed this in a WhatsApp text message to Bernama.
The SAR operations entered its fifth day today and while SAR efforts had begun early in the morning, the skies opened at 6.50pm this evening, forcing those in the area, including local and foreign newsmen camped at the search site perimeters to make a dash for a tent mounted at the resort entrance.

There was no stopping the SAR team members, however, as they braved the heavy rain and continued scouring the thick forest.
Quoirin had arrived at the resort with her parents from London on Saturday for a two-week vacation, before she was reported missing on Sunday at 8 am.
Meanwhile, state Women, Family and Welfare Affairs Committee chairperson Nicole Tan Lee Koon in a statement said the state government have started providing food for the SAR personnel after it was reported that there was a shortage of food supplies for the operation.
“Food supplies fell short as the numbers of search team members kept increasing. However, all is well now.
“It will be good if some good-hearted individuals or companies can contribute other items like mineral water, isotonic drinks and snacks to the rescue team,” she said adding that she had personally contributed about RM2,000 for the purpose.
