RM88 mil for fund to ensure safety of ships in Melaka Straits
KUALA LUMPUR: The Aids to Navigation Fund (ANF) to ensure the safety of ships transiting the Straits of Melaka and Singapore has received contributions amounting to more than US$21 million (RM88 million).
Malaysian Marine Department director-general and ANF chairman Baharin Abdul Hamid said this in a statement last night following the conclusion of the 23rd meeting of the ANF committee held in Kuching, Sarawak, on Thursday and Friday.
The members of the ANF committee are from the three littoral states – Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Others are India, China, Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the Malacca Strait Council (MSC), International Maritime Organisation (IMO), International Foundation for Aids to Navigation, Whitherby Publishing Group and The Nippon Foundation represented by the Nippon Maritime Centre.
The members exchanged information and ideas on how to better manage problems in the straits, Baharin said.
Malaysia has chaired the annual meeting since 2018 after the handover of the chairmanship from Singapore. - FMT
