KULAI: Things are slowly beginning to heat up ahead of the Tanjung Piai by-election as Datuk Seri Najib Razak made an appearance here.
Hundreds of supporters were seen making their way to the Wak Kentut Nasi Lemak restaurant here as early at 8pm to meet the former prime minister.
Najib eventually arrived at about 9pm and spent around 90 minutes mingling with the people here and also had his dinner there.
Also present were former Kulai MCA chief Tan Nai Soon and former Kulai Umno division chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Jidin.
It was learnt that Najib will be heading to Pontian on Friday (Oct 4).
The Tanjung Piai seat fell vacant after the death of its MP Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik on Sept 21 from complications following a heart attack.
Md Farid, 42, who was also Tanjung Piai Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia division vice-chief, won the seat in the last general election after beating MCA's Wee Jeck Seng and PAS' Nordin Othman with a majority of 524 votes.
The Election Commission has announced that the by-election will be held on Nov 16 while nomination day would fall on Nov 2 and early voting is on Nov 12.- Star
