PONTIAN: The head of PPBM Youth, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, believes the best way to reach out to the people of Tanjung Piai is through “listening tours” in preparation for a by-election in the parliamentary constituency on Nov 16.
He said he had made initial preparations from two weeks ago to ensure that the plans could be carried out smoothly.
“I have told our young leaders, not only in Armada but also Harapan Youth, that the best way to get closer to the community is through listening tours, where we don’t sleep in hotels or hostels.
“It is better for us to be placed in the homes of the village folks. We work with them, we help beautify their homes and we show them the ‘service politics’ we can bring,” he said while attending a YouthPower event here today.
Syed Saddiq said his team is currently in the process of identifying several homes and residents for selection in a “foster” programme.
“Through this programme, we need to keep our ears open, and listen to problems and complaints. That’s the best way for us to become closer to the people under this adoption programme in the Tanjung Piai area,” he said.
Syed Saddiq, who is youth and sports minister, announced the upgrading works of several futsal courts in the Tanjung Piai area that would be carried out. He said these projects were requested by the late Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, who was elected MP in 2018.
Syed Saddiq said that Farid had shown a willingness to serve the community in his area and had successfully secured an allocation of RM14.75 million for sports development in the area.
“There are five or six places proposed and we have already approved three of these several months ago,” he added. - FMT
