Kit Siang: DAP, Pakatan accept 'devastating' Tg Piai polls result
PETALING JAYA: DAP and Pakatan Harapan have accepted the "devastating" result of the Tanjung Piai by-election, says Lim Kit Siang (pic).
The DAP veteran said voters spoke not only on behalf of themselves but of the country as well over their frustration and unhappiness at the pace of reforms since GE14 in May last year.
"This will be the first agenda of DAP and Pakatan after the Tanjung Piai by-election.
"The devastating Tanjung Piai by-election result has given greater urgency and importance to the review of the pace and implementation of the reforms promised by Pakatan, especially those contained in Buku Harapan in the GE14 Manifesto, for which the Pakatan presidential council had established a special review committee," he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 17).
Lim also congratulated Barisan Nasional's Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng on winning the by-election that was held on Saturday (Nov 16).
Wee obtained 25,466 votes while Pakatan's Karmaine Sardini came out in second place with 10,380 votes.
Meanwhile, Gerakan's Wendy Subramaniam got 1,707 votes and Berjasa's Datuk Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz got 850.
Independents Dr Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar got 380 and 32 votes respectively.
There were 595 spoilt votes. The voter turnout was good at 74.43%.
The by-election was held after the previous Pakatan MP Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik died on Sept 21. - Star
