Umno mustn’t bank on Pakatan’s failings, says Tok Mat
PETALING JAYA: Umno cannot rely on weaknesses of Pakatan Harapan if the party wishes to secure victory at the next general election, deputy president Mohamad Hasan said today.
Mohamad, popularly known as Tok Mat, reminded Umno members that the party’s loss of power at the 2018 general election had arisen from national and local issues.
Winding up the Negeri Sembilan Umno convention today, he said: “We cannot be in denial about the reasons for our loss in the previous general election, so much so that our own strategies are also lost.”
He added that the Muafakat Nasional unity movement in alliance with PAS should not be seen as a confirmed vehicle towards victory.
“The national unity movement is one strategy, but it isn’t the only strategy to win,” he said. “If we want to win the 15th general election, then we need to strengthen the party’s structure, fix our past weaknesses and reduce internal conflicts.”
If the party wanted to win the next general election, it must be ready to change and must understand what the people wanted, he said. - FMT
