Khalid tops list of leaders in Amanah's first polls
AMANAH AGM | Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad has topped the list of 27 Amanah leaders elected by delegates at its first internal polls since the party was formed in 2015.
Khalid (photo) garnered 786 votes from a total of 822 delegates who voted via e-voting during the party's fourth national congress in Shah Alam tonight.
Outgoing president Mohamad Sabu was in seventh place with 681 votes, while outgoing deputy president Salahuddin Ayub was third with 765 votes.
Three outgoing Amanah vice-presidents made the cut with Deputy Human Resources Minister Mahfuz Omar in second place with 780 votes; Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa in fourth place with 755 votes; and Hulu Langat MP Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus in 15th place with 460 votes.
Of the remaining two outgoing vice-presidents, Salor assemblyperson Husam Musa did not contest in the election, while Tampin MP Hasan Bahrom did not make the top 27 list.
Amanah delegates also voted for all of the party's ministers and deputy ministers with the exception of Deputy Works Minister Anuar Tahir, who is the party's outgoing secretary-general.
Other notable leaders who remained in the top line-up include Seri Serdang assemblyperson Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud (Amanah's former Wanita chief), Malacca Chief Minister Adly Zahari, Sungai Rapat assemblyperson Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, and Johor state assembly Speaker Suhaizan Kaiat.
Notable new faces in the top 27 list include Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz and Permatang Pasir assemblyperson Faiz Fadzil.
Following the announcement of the results tonight, the new top 27 leaders will meet with the newly appointed speaker and deputy speaker, 14 state chiefs and three wings' chiefs.
The meeting will decide who among them will hold the president, deputy president and three vice-presidents post, with the official results to be announced tomorrow morning.
The remaining two vice-presidents posts will be appointed by the newly elected president.
