DAP must start fulfilling promises, says SUPP youth leader
KUCHING: The DAP should stop giving assurances to the people and start fulfilling its election promises, the youth leader of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party said today.
Michael Tiang said that after PH took over Putrajaya, DAP’s performance as the second most powerful component party in the federal government was more than disappointing.
“DAP has lost its credibility in making assurances and promises to the people. The party’s leaders should stop making promises to the rakyat and start doing their jobs,” he said.
As an example, he cited the criticisms raised by Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen at the state assembly in 2017 over the federal government taking over the state’s oil and gas as well as profits.
“Now, as a deputy minister at the federal level, Chong should make use of his position to reclaim Sarawak’s rights over oil and gas from Putrajaya,” said Tiang. “But somehow Chong has been extremely silent about what he had spoken about before DAP became part of the PH government.”
Tiang also commented on DAP deputy secretary-general Nga Kor Ming saying that his remarks about the Unified Examination Certificate had been taken out of context.
Tiang challenged DAP to set a deadline for withdrawing from the PH coalition if the party failed to get UEC recognised.
However, he said it was unnecessary for DAP to leave the government. “What DAP should do is to start playing its role effectively within the PH coalition and be more outspoken just like when they were in the opposition. The leaders should start speaking up for the people,” he said. -FMT
