Nora’s mother insists her daughter was abducted
PETALING JAYA: The parents of Nora Anne Quoirin, the Irish teenager found dead after missing for 10 days in the Malaysian jungle last year, have maintained they believe she was abducted from the resort where her family were on holiday.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday, her mother, Meabh, urged Britain to press for an inquest into Nora’s death, in the wake of a Malaysian government decision to classify the case “NFA (No further action)”.
She said she and her husband believe that their daughter was abducted. “She is too vulnerable a child to have gone off anywhere by herself. She was not physically or mentally capable of doing that,” she said, according to Irish News.
“We know that how she was found is incompatible with someone being alone and exposed in a jungle with no footwear or clothes for as long as she was.
“We absolutely believe that someone took her and we want to know how that happened.”
Nora’s naked body was found in the jungle in Negeri Sembilan, 10 days after she had been reported missing from the resort where the family were on holiday. Malaysian authorities have said a preliminary investigation showed that her death was caused by gastrointestinal bleeding.
Police said last week that a full post-mortem report was expected to be completed soon and would be submitted to the Attorney-General’s office.
“We know this isn’t straightforward,” Nora’s mother said in the radio interview. “There aren’t obvious criminal angles to pursue. Some of that is down to not looking for evidence fast enough and not carrying out forensic checks immediately upon us raising the alarm.
“The case is complex, it won’t be easy to get answers, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.” - FMT
