Yoursay: Can Harapan rise from the ashes?
YOURSAY | ‘What has Harapan done to deserve a second chance?’
Anonymous_16760865429524: DAP national political education director Liew Chin Tong, you ask us to rise again for you.
We did. In GE14. We used our mandate and handed you power. What did you lot do? You squandered it.
Instead of good governance, your leaders politicked. The same leaders are still there. Now you ask us to rise again. Ask yourself, what has Pakatan Harapan done to deserve a second chance?
Or do you expect us to support you because the alternative (Umno-PAS) is far worse? What a dismal choice you present us with.
Fair Malaysian: Chin Tong, when there is a black sheep (Bersatu) with a recalcitrant attitude, you should get rid of them even though this may have resulted in losing power.
You would have, at least, retained your integrity and credibility. After all, you still lost federal power.
People are upset with you as much as they are with the backdoor government. You bluffed us. You betrayed us.
What is the point of locking the stable when the horse had bolted? Will you all really learn?
Frank: Some points for you, Liew, to ponder.
1. Were we exactly enjoying so much of summer or autumn previously?
2. Why did not you say some of those new stuff you mentioned above earlier when you and your friends were in power? And more importantly, put them into action?
3. When the aim is to make easy money (besides escaping prison time for some) like what it was for the first 60 years after independence in 1957, do you really, really think spring can actually come very soon?
Truly, most people most of the time get what they deserve.
Are you - and we all who are in pain these days and there will be more pains with Goods and Services Tax (GST), among other things, coming back into the picture - not deserving what we are facing now?
AnotherKomentar: It was because the spring was coming that the rich and corrupted wanted to reverse and return to the dark days of divisiveness, bigotry and hatred so they can continue to rob, steal and pillage with impunity.
The old system was hard on the people but those were golden days for the powerful and entitled. After having witnessed how a just and equitable country can be administered, they wanted none of that.
They do not care about race or religion but are quite prepared to use them to burn down the only place many called home, just so that they can evade justice.
These are immoral and wicked people that all Malaysians must stand up to and resist.
Open Mind: Liew, everyone knows that Umno and PAS will continue to demonise DAP as a Chinese party unless DAP leaders do something to change this perception.
The party should embark on a nationwide campaign to recruit Malay-Muslim members, particularly the student activists who are very vocal on the recent coup.
This is a blessing in disguise for Harapan coalition to start recruiting these activists and train them to be candidates for the coming election.
Another possibility is for the Harapan components to merge into one Harapan party which is truly multiracial and cuts across all sectors of the society and demographics.
The older leaders may have to take a background role and push the talented and younger ones to the fore as this will appeal more to the electorate.
DalvinK: As much as we don't want keyboard warriors, let's admit that Harapan was weak on social media.
Just take a look at former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak - he has been fully utilising social media to spread news or information to attack Harapan. And none of the Harapan MPs could do as good as him, or at least to counterattack him.
Harapan needs to strengthen this area – to tell the rakyat that DAP is a multiracial party, instead of being labelled a racist party by a racist party like Umno.
Roadshows may be effective but it's old school. Even senior citizens are active in WhatsApp group now. So, get the right agency, or whoever, to quickly improve on this - there's no other way around it in this digital age.
Anonymous_ba958b7b: When I first joined my company back in the 1990s, my colleagues laughed at my interest and passion in Malaysian politics and my support for DAP's Malaysian Malaysia.
Eewww… you are with DAP? Many years later, they are all in DAP.
Reason: DAP has been the most consistent party to champion the rights of all races and all segments of the society, irrespective of race and station of life – poor, rich or marginalised.
To be accused of being communist and Chinese chauvinist is so laughable. We don't give up... that's too weak and easy an option.
Anonymous 2411571459958017: "We need more Malaysians to rise to the occasion, to be counted and to rebuild the country together," said Liew.
Malaysians rose to the occasion on May 9, 2018 against all the odds, and Dr Mahathir Mohamad-Anwar Ibrahim have squandered it.
Does Harapan truly realise how much voluntary energy and resources were poured by the rakyat into making May 9 happen?
If you are thinking you can get the rakyat to open their wallets and personal time to replicate May 9 again, you are living in denial. You guys squandered it, you get it back.
All Seeing Eye: A house made of cards cannot stand long. A building built without deep pilling will not last long either when strong wind starts to blow.
A government made up of thieves and opportunists will not last more than 12 months. - Mkini
