Five arrested for possession of deer meat without permit

KOTA KINABALU: Five people were nabbed in two separate cases in Sabah’s Tongod district, as well as in Tawau, for being in the possession of deer meat without permit on April 22 and 23.
Sabah Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga on Thursday (April 23), said in the first raid in Tongod, two men, aged 30 and 36, were nabbed.
Wildlife rangers on patrol rounds found them with a dead deer in their vehicle.
“In the Tawau case, three men, aged between 29 and 49, were nabbed after they were found with five butchered deer during a roadblock inspection, ” he said in a statement here.
He said all these cases would be investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment.
Those found guilty can be fined at least RM3,000 or up to RM100,000 or jailed up to three years.
Tuuga advised the public not to hunt illegally and said wildlife rangers would be continuing their operations against illegal hunting amid the movement control order (MCO) period. - Star
