PKR puts out the 'fire' of the 'Dragon Queen'

Malaysiakini

In her role as PKR Women's Wing information chief, Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah was well known for her fiery, and in most cases, coordinated responses, to attacks against the faction aligned to former party deputy president Azmin Ali.
She remained with the party amid internal calls for action against alleged "traitors", following Azmin's departure, together with former PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin and nine other leaders, to eventually form the Perikatan Nasional government.
Syarul Ema (above), who is also known by her online moniker Ratu Naga (Dragon Queen), was eventually sacked from her position and from PKR on April 1, according to a formal letter signed by party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
She said she received the official notice of her sacking on April 9, but she was too preoccupied to share her personal statement until yesterday.
"I am now a frontliner for Covid-19. I am serving as a Civil Defence Force personnel.
"I am focusing on that at the moment. I am on duty every day, so for me, let us get to the end of the movement control order first," she told Malaysiakini.
Given that the country is facing a war against Covid-19, Syarul Ema said she was quite taken aback by the timing of her sacking.
"At the very least, the disciplinary council could have issued me a show-cause letter or a warning.
"I could then have a chance to defend myself. This is such bad timing, so I can't entertain such matters," she said when asked whether she had appealed against her sacking.
Aside from Syarul Ema, it was reported yesterday that at least two others - Sarawak's Batu Lintang assemblyperson See Chee How (above) and PKR former Betong (Sarawak) branch chairperson Vernon Aji Kedit - were also sacked from the party by way of letters signed by Saifuddin and also dated April 1.
However, in her press statement, Syarul Ema thanked PKR Women's chief Haniza Talha and the wing's leadership for their assistance towards her throughout her time with the party.
She had made headlines when she first joined PKR in October 2016, about six months after she was charged for allegedly insulting then prime minister Najib Abdul Razak on Facebook.
This case against Syarul Ema, under Section 233(3) of the Communications and Multimedia Act,  was discharged by the Sessions Court in Sepang in July 2018, after the prosecution withdrew the charge. - Mkini
