Widow of cop who died of Covid-19 recovers from infection

The widow of a police officer who died of Covid-19 last month has recovered from the infection after spending slightly more than a week in Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Aiza Shafinaz Sahak, 34, was confirmed negative for the virus last night, about two weeks after her husband, Mohd Fairuz Saberon, passed away.

Her father, Sahak Mohd Harun, 58, has also recovered after 19 days of treatment in Hospital Permai, Johor.

“On this blessed Friday...finally, I am confirmed free of Covid-19 after testing negative three times in a row, the second time on March 30 and the third on April 4. I am grateful to Almighty Allah,” she said in a Facebook posting last night.

She has been transferred to Pusat Belia Antarabangsa, Cheras, for 14 days of self-quarantine, she said.

“Thank you Allah for allowing me to continue breathing and continue this journey...You gave me strength to fight my emotions daily after Covid-19 took away my love, my husband, and my one hope in life,” she said.

Aiza, her late husband, her father and other members of the extended family travelled to Bandung, Indonesia, from March 9 to 12.

Fairuz developed symptoms the day after returning to the country and was admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur on March 18. He died on March 26, Police Day.

His father-in-law, Sahak, tested positive on March 20.

Sahak is a resident of Bandar Baru Ibrahim Majid in Simpang Renggam, Johor.

The village and neighbouring Kampung Datuk Ibrahim Majid was placed under enhanced movement control order (Emco) on March 27, following a spike in cases in the area.

The Emco there, which imposes a total lockdown, was due to expire on April 9, but has since been extended to April 14.

Some of those who tested positive from these areas had also attended the tabligh event at Masjid Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur on Feb 27 to March 3, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

More than 40 percent of cases in Malaysia are traced to the Sri Petaling event. - Mkini
