YOURSAY | But MPs are not elected to head GLCs

Malaysiakini

YOURSAY | 'How does being an MP qualifies him or her to run a GLC?'
Pink Panther: My friends and I, Malays and non-Malays, are fighting hard to sustain our businesses and our daily lives at this challenging time.
We fully appreciate and support the efforts of the frontliners – health workers, police and NGO activists – all of whom are doing a commendable job under the circumstances. We cast politics aside for now so we can unite to fight off this pandemic.
But it is getting hard, and our spirit is breaking, when we feel we are constantly kicked in the teeth by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership.
How can we keep our trust in them when they blatantly reward politicians – none of whom we voted for – just because they made up the numbers for a coup?
Quo Vadis: A backdoor government indeed, as the PM admitted, it was not elected by the people. It was brought into being through treachery and backstabbing.
Now, the perks are being distributed regardless. And all this during a life-threatening national crisis when we cannot even see the light at the end of the tunnel.
To all our responsible leaders, who have the interest of the country in their hearts, to G25 and former minister Rafidah Aziz (above), must we sit and watch helplessly the charade being played out - warm water as a cure for Covid-19, Doraemon to keep domestic tempers on leash, TikTok to keep amused, a visit to an institution for a specially-written Pejuangkita session, the opening of barbershops?
Can anything be done to hold the PN ministers accountable?
We seem to be under a government that is directionless and with knee-jerk actions galore. It is only because of the clear, unequivocal, steadfast leadership of the director-general of the Health Ministry that there are some sanity and order.
HanafiahPuteh: I agree with Rafidah. These politicians are all about making money while hiding behind race and religion. They have not changed. They are all about greed for positions and money.
The only way is to remove all of them lock, stock and barrel in the coming general election. Enough of dirty politicians in Malaysia.
Jaycee: Surely the backdoor government knows that there are no free lunches. The fact that these frogs hopped, in the first place, is based on the big reward that was promised to each and every one of them.
So, now it is payback time. They need to have a piece of the pie and since the ministry positions are already filled to the brim; why not put them in charge of the government-linked companies (GLCs)?
Accountability, transparency and honesty are not pre-requisites for these people. If they are, we would not expect them to jump like frogs.
Sphzxcv: "This is because all of them are qualified. They are MPs," the PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan had said.
How does being an MP qualifies him or her to run a GLC? Does an MP with no tertiary or academic/university qualification or experience be qualified to head a GLC?
Is this the way PAS justifies the appointments, just like they say it's okay to lie for the sake of religion?
Hobo60: All the GLCs are now up for grabs. PAS has fired the first shot. What about others?
Maybe all the others are mosquito parties and can only salivate at best or are now planning the next strategic move on the political chessboard. How nice it is to watch this game of thrones being played.
It was former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who started the broken system to keep all powers in his hand, forgetting that he is human as he has to meet his Maker one day.
He squandered his time as PM for the second time in not fixing it but continuing to play divisive politics to keep himself and others in power, but this time being outplayed by his more brilliant students.
Honestly, from his first time as PM in 1984, he introduced many destructive policies which have divided our people.
Now it is too late to mend them. We can only live with the false hope that our country will be resilient and strong enough to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Anonymous #33227154: The fact that the PN MPs want to head the GLCs is a sign that they are interested to get their hands on the country's coffers to enrich themselves.
The MPs are elected to represent their constituents, they are not elected to head GLCs.
The GLCs should be headed by experienced, qualified experts and professionals in the various industries, and certainly not by politicians. Unless PN really wants to doom Malaysia, the PM should never agree to the sinister demands of these greedy MPs.
Hantam: I am not even upset. I am so numb that I could not be upset. Ever since the Sheraton Move and then the installation of the backdoor government by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, I have given up hope for Malaysia.
Let it be, if the average Malays and Muslims are willing to put up with such blatant corruption, nobody can help them nor save them. Change can only happen if Malays look past the skin colour and religion and judge everyone by their own merits.
Cyclonus: Just a few weeks ago, I thought maybe we should give this PN a chance despite the several displays of idiocy by some of their leaders.
But now I know how to vote, come GE15. It's quite obvious that this unelected PM and his government coalition is just an evolved strain of the Umno virus with some PAS DNA.
The very same party that closed an eye, rationalised and protected the corruption by their own members will now hold leadership and influential positions of fiduciary duty in GLCs that have commercial and economic ties with the government's financial health.
We should all practise social distancing from them and get over the three-year incubation period before the next election and use the most powerful vaccine we have against them - our votes. - Mkini
