YOURSAY | Zahid's daughter can't have the cake and eat it too

YOURSAY | 'Why were other MCO violators immediately fined and handcuffed?'
Mazilamani: Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid (photo, above) not only challenged the public to report her movement control order (MCO) violation to the police but indirectly challenged the police to act if they dare. This is a sign of blatant arrogance.
Had she accepted her fault and apologised, the rakyat might have generously forgiven her.
Under the present conditions, when the law is equally applicable to everybody, she has no right to prove she is markedly different.
People may want to ask what are the essential services she peddles, apart from meeting the two ministers for "my way" of dealing with matters.
Nurulhidayah has forgotten that the entire nation is going through a testing time, not knowing their fate when the MCO is lifted.
Many among them are caring and responsible parents, possibly facing a bleak and uncertain future. Please avoid stirring their controlled patience when they are not as influential as you.
Learn from the sympathetic ways of the prime minister and some of his ministers, who are neither seen or heard but working quietly from their homes. This is not the time for a limelight appearance.
Anonymous #33227154: Why waste time to record her statement? The police should arrest and charge Zahid's daughter straight away, like what they did to other non-Perikatan Nasional (PN) politician MCO violators.
We can't have different sets of law for PN politicians and other Malaysians. Doing this is a gross abuse of power and a disregard of the law by the police.
And please, also handcuff her like what the police did with other MCO violators. We want justice to be done.
Neutral Point: We just want to know if the police are going to charge those politicians or their family members who violated the MCO. Just say yes or no - there’s no need to tell the rakyat that the police are going to investigate or record statements.
After all, you did not do so with the ordinary rakyat who violated the law, whom you charged immediately. Why were these other violators immediately fined and handcuffed?
Newday: There is nothing to investigate. She broke MCO for the most absurd reason - shouting about apostasy to de facto Religious Affairs Minister Zulkifli Mohamed, and talking about visiting a dear family friend.
We do not have the same exclusive connections as this person. Some of us have not been able to see our family members.
Who is investigating what? We all know what won’t happen with this “investigation”.

Kita Anak Malaysia: Deputy Health Minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali, Perak exco member Azman Zakaria and even the daughter of former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and their entourage were out and about.
We have yet to see any action taken against them yet. All this poor girl did was to bake a birthday cake and eat it with her boyfriend. The result is a seven-day jail sentence on top of an RM800 fine.
This is clearly too severe a sentence, whereas we have those so-called very important persons (VIPs) not even charged yet. Or, would those cases be marked as “no further action”?
The Wakandan: The majority of people have not realised the severity of the MCO. Many come out of their houses for something errant or to meet somebody.
The girl would not have expected to be jailed when she wanted to send the cake to her boyfriend. She found out the hard way that MCO meant business.
Mano: Deputy Rural Development Minister Abdul Rahman Mohamad was pictured with a birthday cake on April 13. He said that the cake was an unplanned surprise and he could not “chase away” those bringing the cake.
Well, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador, what about chasing Abdul Rahman?
Shanmugam V K Subrayan: Can the IGP explain why certain people are arrested, remanded instantly and then fined or jailed soon after that.
But these so-called VIPs are invited to come to the police station at their convenience to make statements and then the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) will take a few months to make a decision whether to charge them or not? With the results most likely to be “no further action”.
Why don’t you make it consistent that all MCO violators are invited to the police station at their convenience to make statements and then let the AGC decide at its own convenience whether to charge them?
Anonymous #13571680: While the MCO was a welcome need of the hour when first implemented, the manner of its enforcement is definitely a joke.
Until all are treated as equal before the law, the joke will continue. In fact, the whole country has become a circus from the deprivation of food to the non-distribution of aid to the opposition-held areas and to the heavy political activity behind the screen, instead of concentrating on combating Covid-19.
One can’t help thinking if politicians are in fact gaining/making cash at the expense of the rakyat during this time of emergency.
Cogito Ergo Sum: In George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’, some animals were more equal than others.
It seems this vision has come to pass in 2020 Malaysia. In fact, it has been this way for a long time already.
Even when Pakatan Harapan was in power, the authorities went after BN politicians except for Najib and his band of thieves. And it will be the same unless there is a paradigm shift in the way we perceive racial politics.
Until then, read ‘Animal Farm’ at home while waiting for the MCO to lift. - Mkini
