Barbed wire around Pudu not an enhanced MCO move, says cops
CORONAVIRUS | An area around Jalan Pudu has been cordoned off with concertina barbed wire since last night but police have said that it's not under the enhanced movement control order (MCO).
A foreign worker on the inside of the blocked area told Malaysiakini that authorities had come around 10pm yesterday to install the wire fencing which stretches from near the D Majestic Place hotel at Jalan Pudu to Jalan Landak, making several blocks of buildings impassable.
A printing shop owner, known as Tan, said that he had felt something amiss after he saw a bus picking up dozens of foreigners in this area yesterday evening.
His shop is only seven metres away from the concertina wires along Jalan Brunei.
Several shop operators were seen expressing their frustration as they couldn't enter the area while other operators were stuck behind the wires.
KL police chief Mazlan Lazim said that authorities are strengthening the MCO in the area.
"It's not a lockdown but to strengthen the MCO just like how we did in Chow Kit market," he said.
Yesterday evening the Health Ministry disclosed that 18 of the new cases in the Federal Territory were all from one source - in the vicinity of the Pudu market.
This cluster currently has 30 cases - all involving foreign nationals.
