Chini assemblyperson Abu Bakar Harun dies at age 60

Chini assemblyperson Abu Bakar Harun, 60, has passed away early this morning.

This was confirmed by Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

"Received the sad news about the departure of a friend and comrade Abu Bakar Harun who returned to ramatullah this morning," he said in a Facebook post.

Wan Rosdy conveyed his condolences to Abu Bakar's family.

Abu Bakar passed away at Kuala Lumpur Hospital at 3am, believed to be from a heart attack, according to Berita Harian.

The BN lawmaker previously served as a state exco in the Pahang government from 2013 until 2018.

Abu Bakar won the Chini state seat with 10,027 votes against PAS' Mohd Fadhil Noor Abdul Karim who garnered 5,405 votes and Bersatu's Mohamad Razali Ithnain who received 1,065 votes in the last general election.

 All three parties are now part of the Perikatan Nasional government.

Chini is one of four state seats within the Pekan parliamentary constituency held by former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
