Police to check on parked vehicles for interstate travel flouters

Police and the military will check on vehicles parked at residential areas to track down those who have made unauthorised interstate balik kampung trips during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Selangor police chief Noor Azam Jamaludin (above) said.

He said the enforcement teams will check the registration numbers of the vehicles that are parked outside the houses.

"We will cross-check the registration numbers with our list and see whether the vehicles and its owners are permitted for interstate travel.

"If we discover that there are those who flouted the ban on interstate travel, we will detain the vehicle owner, which is usually the head of the family," Noor Azam was quoted as saying by The Star.

"Action will be taken under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and Police Act 1967.

"No more warning or advice. We will detain those who flout the conditional movement control order (MCO) by travelling interstate without permission," Noor Azam said.

"On top of that, we also conducted roadblocks at strategic locations to detect those attempting to sneak pass authorities to balik kampung.

"Those who don't have the necessary approval for interstate travel will be told to turn back."

Inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador was reported to have said that security forces personnel would visit houses during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations to track down those flouted the interstate travel ban.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is expected to fall on May 24 and May 25. - Mkini
