Tajuddin: Najib's son qualified to stand in Chini by-election

Malaysiakini

CHINI POLLS | An Umno Supreme Council member has voiced support for Mohd Nizar Najib, son of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, to be fielded as PN's candidate in the forthcoming Chini by-election.
Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said based on Mohd Nizar's position and experience as Pekan Umno Youth chief, the 42-year-old has the qualifications to be fielded in the by-election.
"We heard rumours there is a possibility (for Mohd Nizar to be fielded). He has a party position, he is the division youth chief and qualified to stand.
"He also has the academic background, good relations with the people, and the people like him as he is not arrogant," said Tajuddin, who is the Prasarana chairperson, when met after a visit to the Sungai Buloh MRT depot yesterday.
Tajuddin said the posibility of Mohd Nizar contesting in Chini was mere speculation, for no decision has been made by BN's central leadership.
On his personal view of Nizar's potential candidacy, Tajuddin said he would support any candidate fielded by BN to defend the seat, so long as the person is accepted by the people.
"If the candidate is accepted by the people, then I will support him," he added.
The Chini state seat fell vacant following the death of Abu Bakar Harun, 60, at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital on May 7. He earlier suffered a heart attack and a fall.
The Election Commission has set July 4 as polling day for the Chini by-election.
The EC also set June 20 as the nomination day and June 30 for early voting.
Pahang BN chief Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail previously confirmed that Umno will field a candidate in the by-election.
Mohd Nizar's name has been speculated as a potential candidate, backed by suggestions from the state Umno Youth movement and based on his leadership quality.
In GE14, Abu Bakar received 10,027 votes and defeated PAS candidate Mohd Fadhil Noor Abdul Karim (5,405 votes)  and PKR's Mohd Razali Ithnain (1,065 votes). - Mkini
