YOURSAY | Protect public interest, says he who faces multiple graft charges
YOURSAY | ‘My toes are laughing to hear the above statement from Zahid.’
OceanMaster: The top management of government-linked companies (GLCs) must be highly competent and experienced with impeccable character.
The need to serve the interest of the nation and its people must be embedded in every GLC charter and governance. The professional chairpersons, board members, CEOs and other top managers are expected to strictly adhere to this charter.
And from here onwards, GLCs' function is no different from private enterprises; to ensure sustainable profits and returns to the shareholders and stakeholders.
The long-term view is for GLCs to operate in that manner. Singapore had mastered this well. Their scholars fill up the top positions of their GLCs and if they can show excellent leadership, they can then enter the political arena, and not the other way around.
So when Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi tries to explain the MPs’ appointment as GLC heads, he is indeed exposing the extreme selfish political horse-trading to protect his and his party's position rather than the nation’s and the citizen's interests. Of course, in the current situation, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is held at ransom.
The eventual outcome of these GLCs' position is long known. Financial loses year after year with government bailouts, interference by politicians in the key strategic decisions and abuse of power to cover up corrupt practices.
Mara, Felda, Tabung Haji, 1MDB scandals had a common denominator; all of them had politicians leading them.
This really is one of the worst decisions by greedy and crooked Perikatan Nasional (PN); these politicians are destroying the nation's future and the future of our children.
Slumdog: “MPs can also ensure that the GLCs serve the people's interest,” said Zahid.
What a hilarious joke, except that no one is laughing but crying. The plundering has begun. From memory, MPs have served their own interests, that is, their pockets and pockets of their cronies.
Rupert16: “Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the appointment of MPs to head government-linked companies and agencies was to help ensure that they can carry out Putrajaya's agenda.”
My toes are laughing to hear the above statement from Zahid in light of the number of corruption charges (47 in all) that he is currently facing.
One thing for sure, the backdoor appointment of PN MPs to head GLCs and other government bodies is to ensure that these MPs are well taken care of beyond their means and also to give them the “licence” to plunder the country’s public funds, just like what former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, Zahid and other Umno leaders have done in the past.
Winter As Come: Yes, we know, Zahid. It is to set up more Yayasan Akalbudi with express desire to help the poor, orphans and widows but to instead use the money to allegedly pay, among others, for a fleet of fancy cars and superbikes.
Your proteges will learn quickly from you. They were starved for two years since GE14 but now working overtime to make up for lost time, even during the lockdown.
We understand that GLCs are set up by the government to serve government objectives, which is corruption and to serve people like you, all in the name of bumiputera rights except that the Malays are forever dependent on you.
MyMalaysia: What stupid reasoning by Zahid. Did the people elect MPs to run GLCs or take care of their constituencies?
There are so many corporate individuals that can manage these GLCs better, instead of MPs who are politically motivated to enrich their cronies and themselves.
Anonymous 770241447347646: History has shown without a reasonable doubt how GLCs have been made use of by politicians and their cronies to enrich themselves.
In the end, time and again, taxpayers’ monies had been used to bail them out, while the top officials running these corporations enrich themselves.
Anonymous 5237890145285379: Yes, I am sure the MPs appointed to the GLCs will fully ‘take care’ of the interests of the people.
Despite the burden of being MPs and having to attend Parliament while taking care of the constituents, these MPs now have an additional burden of running the GLCs. Such tough lives.
Also, don’t forget that besides these burdens, there are also other sacrifices, like running charities and foundations. Remember Yayasan Akalbudi?
Yes, it is not just enough to handle the burden of government functions but also the burden of running charities and foundations to further the interests of the people.
So, the MPs should not complain about the extra work they have to do. After all, it is all to take care of the interests of the people. Such great sacrifices.
GMan: Zahid, your lies would have some semblance of credibility only if all the MPs appointed do so on pro bono basis - that is, no salary nor benefits in any kind. They are already paid well enough as MPs.

Anonymous_2dfe64eb: Non-executive board members or chairpersons are not supposed to interfere in the daily operation of GLCs.
You should appoint your politician friend as CEO or executive director if you want them to implement your political agenda in the name of Putrajaya.
Your political appointees are only good at ceramah and street fighting. They have zero value to add in the boardroom to professionally check company executives on good governance and risk management.
FairMalaysian: Zahid thinks we are small kids. It is known to all that these political appointments are to garner or retain political support.
The PN government has the largest cabinet ever and if the ministers cannot carry out Putrajaya's agenda, then something is not right.
RZee: Would you put an inexperienced person in a company you own and pay him a salary from your pocket? Of course not, and no right-thinking employer would ever do that.
But in this case, it’s not your money as it is the rakyat’s money, isn’t it? - Mkini
