Varsity develops body temperature scanner and sanitiser
BACHOK: Staff of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan have developed a device that scans a visitor’s body temperature and also dispenses hand sanitising liquid as part of measures to control the spread of Covid-19.
The university’s research centre director, Abdul Hafidz Yusoff, said: “Previously the service of a security guard was needed to screen the temperature.”
The device displays the body temperature on a screen. “If the temperature exceeds 37.5C, the buzzer will ring and the person will not be allowed into the campus”, he said.
It was developed by researchers of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Technology led by Dr Sarizam Mamat.
UMK students will return in October to resume their studies after campuses were closed in March as part of a national shutdown.
Hafidz said the health screening device will also be suitable for other locations, including hospitals, health clinics, police stations and other government departments. - FMT
